Missions: Doing
On November 7, Karla Linder and I took six children to the Children’s Mission Day sponsored by CBFNC at Hickory First Baptist Church. The children learned about different missions done by CBF personnel and volunteers throughout the state, enjoyed fun activities, and games.
In one of the centers, the children learned how some people create jobs or activities for helping others. The children then had a brain-storming session where they created their own ideas for helping others. One of our children came up with the idea of collecting and getting food to those who need it.
There is great value in the way we have decided to teach missions to our children. Children do not fully understand the value of money, but they do understand the value of helping and doing. After all, missions is not just about giving money, but also about doing. When our children get involved in activities like Operation Christmas Child, Hearts for Kids, and making sandwiches for Brian’s homeless ministry, they learn that they have something to contribute to the church and God’s Kingdom.
After all, Jesus did command us to go (Matthew 28:19).
